It is an upgrade, especially for applications where it is enormously faster, but 13th-14th gen K CPUs are significantly higher performing in games than 11th gen, so I wouldn't select the 11900K if you're likely to have a newer Ryzen 7000 or 13-14th gen alternative soon.

It’s pretty much the chip a 8900K would have been. A bit weak on cache and runs hot. Performance is a bit all over the place. Best case it’s close to a 5900X, worse case it’s more like a 3700X.

damn. gutted. £100 would've been a steal if it was a working chip
have you checked on intel website if the warranty is still in date? could do a cheeky RMA if there's still the intel warranty lol

Better luck this time - I'll be interested in your impressions if/when you get it going, as I'm still running my 8700k@5ghz as it seems to be perfectly fine for my 3080fe system as I'm only on a 1440p 60hz monitor

If you doing a full system swap and not just a cpu swap as first stated. Then this was a very silly upgrade. You could have got a lot better cpu for the same sort of money.
