Hi folks, I haven't changed my PC for a while now, and was wondering if there was anything to be gained from a newer CPU/ MB /Memory.

Currently running a Gigabyte GA X58 mobo, I7 920 D0, Geil Golden Dragon 6Gb RAM with a Radeon 5870.

If it's overclocked, keep it. It's not worth moving to Sandy/IvyBridge.

If it's not overclocked, overclock it :p.

You still have a very good system. A GPU upgrade might be more beneficial to you instead.

no, i've just moved from i7 920 to 3770k... couldnt be more disappointed if i tried.

Wow I am so glad someone can say that honestly.

I am not planning on upgrading my i7 until the next tick and the following tock - there are no games/applications that need it so it would be an utter waste of money.

Put your cash into an SSD or Graphics Card to see an improvement in overall or gaming performance respectively.

I upgraded my i7 920 to a i7 950 recently. My chip was a hot CPU and did not overclock too well. I'm happy and my system should now last at least another year until the new CPUs are out.

Thanks all - just got a Sandisk 120Gb SSD, so maybe a GPU upgrade next then - and maybe a custom w/c setup as my system is a bit noisy at the moment.
