Hi,

Gonna be getting an i7 920 soon but I have seen there are the 2 steppings. I know the D0 oc's well but what about the C0? I have the chance to buy a C0 stepping 920 that the guy says does 4.3ghz on air, prime stable for 20 odd hours (have pics). Would I get this cpu higher on water do you think?

Some of the guys on here will tell you that the C0 will struggle to get even 3.8GHz let alone 4.3GHz and yes that is on air. If you have pics then I would be willing to see them. I have a D0 stepping and have hit 4.0GHz on air with no problem. It's now using water and the highest I have gone is 4.5GHz but I have left it at 4.0GHz.

So yeah pics or I don't believe it :D :p

There is no difference in terms of overclocking, it's just that the initial batches of d0 chips happened to be extremely good batches. It seems that newer ones are still very good but not quite as amazing.

D0 tend to clock higher at lower voltage but higher current and higher overall heat output

So the C0 are safer to overvolt, but the D0 don't need to be as heaviliy overvolted. I'm not sure it makes a difference really

d0 are better,i have a c0 at 3.8 rock solid very stable,i have tried 4ghz but is not stable(HT on)

i would buy a d0 but i built my rig in december 2008 and only c0 was available at this time,im very happy with my pc...go for the d0;)

i too would love to see the 4.3ghz c0 on air that your say somebody has

Very impossible !!! 4.3GHz on air (i would love to see this picture) more likely he probably use very high vcore voltage setting

Look closely at CPU-Z and it tells you the stepping at the top right...clearly says C0. I knew it wouldnt be on air lol... :D

I have to say it is an impressive overclock...but I have to wonder if he lapped it first...but then again 4.3GHz on water is damn good...and if its stable at that speed then credit to the guy for doing it... :D

My buds C0 on air with HT @ 4.2ghz - 1.4v's on a asus matx rig
