Hi i ust tried to overclock my processor (i7 920) but when i saved everything and restarted my PC it just kept constantly restarting before it even posted, as it was my first time i thought id just destroyed my new pc, was a pretty scary experience :P so im just wondering how to overclock it properly and why it just kept restarting over and over until i reset the bios?

Hi my specs are:

intel i7 920
HD4890
Gigabyte EX58-UD3R
6gb OCZ gold ddr3
ocz stealthxstream 600watt

i have now managed to get a seemingly stable overclock of 3.6ghz, im running prime95 and its on its 13th test so im gona leave it running for 4 more hours, id just like to ask if all my voltages ect are ok?

vcore - 1.26v
memory voltage -1.56v
BCLK requency - 170
ICH and IOH - 1.3v
multiplyer - 21

Idle temps - 36 - 38c
100% load - 64 - 72c

Processor @ 3.6Ghz

according to cpu-z my DRAM frequency is 680.0mhz, and im unsure on how to change ram timings:(

on overclockers it says my ram is:

1333MHz DDR3

so is it running really slowly?

Thanks i have now changed them to

9
9
9
24 (my ram timing is 20 but i hear 24 is safer when OC'd)

also my memory is now running at 1440mhz with 1.6v

i have increased my CPU OC upto 3.8GHZ and didnt change any voltages, im going to run prime95 and see if the system is stable. Also id just like to know if these settings will be fine for permenent use and if these volts will be good for permenent use (assuming system is stable)

vcore - 1.26v
memory voltage -1.6v
ICH and IOH - 1.140......v

my idle temps now are 36 - 41c (so a slight increase but are these still ok or are they too high) ?
and my 100%load temps are 65 - 73c

Thanks!

just like to say thanks again lol you have helped me greatly! Just deciding now if it passes prime95 test if i should try for 4ghz or stay at 3.8 :P also should i run prime95 small FFT for 8 hours then blend test for 8 hours then do a mem test for say 8 pass's? surley that would ensure my system is stable?
