Hey guys,

Just been toying with my CPU today to see what it is capable of, only done this a couple of times before so I'm hopeful you guys can point me in the right direction.

I'm pretty sure that it shouldn't be that hot, the voltage seems high compared to other i7 920 overclocks I have seen posted on this forum.

Any suggestions on how to improve this? Don't want to start mucking about with settings and take a wrong turn :D

Spec (if required):
i7 920
Thermalright TRUE Black 120
6GB OCZ Reaper Tri-Channel DDR3, PC3-15000 RAM
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P

I haven't changed any settings in the bios other than the bus speed.

Cheers

Just noticed this is the wrong forum - sorry. Is it possible to get it moved to the overclocking section?

All I can say for certain is I would back it way down for now as that is far too hot.

I've RTM'ed your post to see about getting it moved :).

to get a stable clock @ cooler temps UR GOING to have to change more setting then just the bus speed! post ur bios settings so we all can have a look and point u in the right direction! :-)

Something seriously wrong if those temps are accurate. agree with Chippy08 i would check your cooler to see if its mounted properly

Id suggest lowering the voltage a tad, the op's i7 is a CO stepping which generally require a bit more voltage than a DO, but the voltage is still a bit on the high side for the clockspeed.

I cant see the cooler being seated right though with those temps.
So try reseating your cooler and re-apply the termal paste.

My C0 needs around the same volts as the for about 3.4ghz-3.5ghz.I get those temps running at 4.2+ghz (although not fully stable) so i would agree with you on this.

Nope, the older C1 steppings run a bit warmer and need more volts than a DO, same as the q6600, there was an original B3 stepping which was replaced with the GO.

Temps do look high for a slight overclock.

You could probably get away with 1.24v for a 3ghz overclock

Check and reseat your HSF.

You cooler is not mounted properly or the face of the cooler is not very flat. I'd exspect the temps to be in the 60's maybe lower with those clocks.
