Hi evening folks. I'm looking for a little bit of advice and guidance on overclocking my rig tonight. Spec below has been running at 3.6GHz on stock voltages for around 10months or so and I haven't had any trouble with it. I feel the time has now come for me to try to see how far my cpu can go.

Current spec;

i7 920 D0 Stepping
Titan Fennrir cpu cooler
Foxconn Bloodrage gti x58 motherboard
OCZ gold 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 tripple channel RAM
Corsair HX750W PSU
Coolermaster CM690 Case with addition 120mm case fans

I've had a read through varies stickys and the official i7 overclocking thread and have tried various settings in the bios but nothing I do seems to be stable. I am a noob overclocking so apologies for any silly questions in advance.

Temperatures seemed a little on the high side even when running @3.6 see below:

OK so onto my settings;

CPU FEATURES;
PPM DISABLED
EXECUTE DISABLE BIT ENABLED
VIRTUALIZATION ENALBED
HYPERTHREADING ENALBED
ACTIVE PROCESSOR CORES ALL
CURRENT FEEDBACK OVERIDE ENABLED

MEMORY;
IMC CONFIGURATION ENABLED
CHANNEL CONFIG INDEPENDENT
CHANNEL INTERLEAVING 6 WAY
RANK INTERLEAVING 4 WAY

VIRTUAL XMP DISABLED
DRAM TIMING CONTROL BY SDP

CPU VOLTAGES;
CPU CORE VOLTAGE Default
CPU TARGET CORE VOLTAGE 1.22500
CPU Vdroop Compensation DISABLED
CPU VTT (UNCORE) VLTE Default
1.8V PLL VOLTAGE SETTING 1.800V
CPU CLOCK AMPLITUDE CTRL 0.800V

DRAM VOLTAGE 1.60V

X58 IOH CORE VOLTAGE 1.10v
X58 IOH VCCA 1.1v 1.108v
X58 IOH VCCA 1.5v 1.506v
ICH10 SB Voltage 1.506v

CPU TURBO DISABLED
SYSTEM TURBO ENABLED

CPU Bclock (FSB) 180MHz
QPI LINK FAST MODE ENABLED
QPI MULTIPLIER Auto
QPI TARGET SPEED 3245MHz
CPU CORE MULTIPLIER x20
CPU CORE TARGET SPEED 3606MHz
CPU UNCORE MULTIPLIER AUTO
CPU UNCORE TARGET SPEED 2887MHz
MEMORY BUS MULTIPLIER AUTO
MEMORY BUS TARGET SPEED 1444MHz (DDR3 1444)
CPU CLOCK SKEW 0ps
IOH CLOCK SKEW 0ps

Any help would be much appreciated!

Increase the CPU Bclock to 200 and keep the multiplier at 20.

Raise the CPU vcore to 1.28v ~
Increase the DRam to 1.64v
You may need to adjust the unicore frequencey, I have mine at 3200mhz.

Also I increased each of the various other voltages by .1v

Hopefully with the above you should be ok at 4ghz, if not up the vcore a notch.

Try changes these settings:

CPU VOLTAGES;
CPU CORE VOLTAGE Default
CPU TARGET CORE VOLTAGE 1.35
CPU Vdroop Compensation ENABLED
CPU VTT (UNCORE) VLTE 1.35
DRAM VOLTAGE 1.65V
CPU TURBO ENABLED
SYSTEM TURBO ENABLED
CPU Bclock (FSB) 200MHz
QPI MULTIPLIER x36
QPI TARGET SPEED 7200MHz
CPU CORE MULTIPLIER x20
CPU CORE TARGET SPEED 4000 (4200)MHz
CPU UNCORE MULTIPLIER x16
MEMORY BUS MULTIPLIER x8
MEMORY BUS TARGET SPEED 1600MHz (DDR3 1600)

This should get you to 4GHz (4.2 with Turbo enabled).

Try the above without a vcore change, may work on stock volts, may not. If not then increase cpu vcore slightly until you get stability. You may also find playing with the QPI voltage (raising or lowering) will help stabalise the system.

Thanks RJC, just tried this now, failed to boot into windows. Going to increase vcore now but should I be changing the

X58 IOH VCCA 1.1v 1.108v
X58 IOH VCCA 1.5v 1.506v
ICH10 SB Voltage 1.506v

voltages at all ?

Thanks webbo too,

tried your suggest settings too, didn't even post, went into overclock recovery.

Just lowed BLCK to 190, running occt.

OK so after much playing around last night and today this is as far as I've got, quite disappointed but hoping with a little help can get it further.

Where can I go from here ? Have tried bumping up the FSB and also the Vcore, vtt, pll and x58 IOH voltages but always seem to fail OCCT. I can boot into windows at 4ghz but not stable.
