Finally upgraded to i7 920 with X58 UD3 with ocz pc3-16000 6gb mem.
I can get a steady 3ghz but coz this is a new board and completly new set up (bios) really struggling to get any higher?
i know each chip/board is different but surley i can get higher clocks then 3ghz?
is there any help for this new breed of chips and boards?

Hi ,

Yep its very different from ocing other systems from my experience too.

Its all about coming to terms with what your looking at in your bios and what your bios may call something that may be named as something else in another bios brand. Can get confusing.

First what are your current settings ?? Voltage ? manual or Auto. Whats the current blck. What is the memory at and what uncore ? Have you manually set your memory timings and voltage to its specified ratings. ?

Please dont worry. You will be able to achieve 3.4ghz+ easily bearing in mind every piece if hardware is running without any errors.

Oh , and are you using the STOCK intel cooler. ? Its not good for overclocking the i7.

thanks useing watercooled kit.@ min mem timings are10/10/10/20 volts is 1.665
cpu volts is 1.2875 blck is 150 cpu ratio is 20.
uncore, qpi and everything els is set to auto as im new to this type of set up so unsure as to what settings to change to? but learning.
i like how there are 2 bios so got all my setting set to "TEST1" and then have another 5 saves to play with! so when i get bosd i can revert to test1 and try again.
:-)

try this ive gig ud5 board..but the bios should be the same..

bclk (175)

memory multiplier (8.0)

cpu v.core 1.23125v

dram voltage 1.5v

turbo on

should get you a stable [email protected] under prime95 and mem test

http://service.futuremark.com/home.action

He's using 2000MHz RAM, so he could quite easily use the 10x mem multi, also remember to set the uncore multi to twice that of your mem multi, so using 10x for mem, you need to set uncore to 20x.

yes but you sort out the cpu overclock....and then you can increase the ram

first get the cpu stable....then try an increase in your ram..1 thing at a time...no point having a stable cpu overclock
if the ram gives you a memory dump

just got in and put some basic settings in from all your replies and so far gat 3.5! well impressed with everybodys knowladge!
will post more data bk soon as.

right then @ min ive got 3.8ghz stable.
in bios ive got 2 saved 4ghz set ups of which one boots up but is unstable and the other wont even boot the difference between them is memory! one that runs is 1800 but as soon as i hit 2000 thats it game over! im sure ive ordered 2000 memory and if so why does it die?

i7 920 with X58 UD3 with ocz pc3-16000 6gb mem is what i have also
ram running @ 1600 1.65 v 8.8.8.24.2T memory multiplier (8.0)
cpu @ 4.2 with 1.31v
bclk 200 x 21 turbo on

hi mate, u got urs stable? If u dont mind me asking whats the rest of ur settings? Only askin cos when u try and reed up every ones got dif settings and sugestions on everythin and as i got same set up as u, it might work?

What voltage is your ram supposed to run at, (It should say on the sticker on it) I'm guessing 1.65? That could be your issue, not enough voltage.
