i7 920 + p6t easy overclocking settings for simple people?

Hi,

I have the following bits:

i7 920
Corsair 6GB DDR3 XMS3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz
Asus p6t motherboard
Thermalright True black 120 + fans

I'm quite clueless when it comes to overclocking so I am just wondering if there are any "generic" settings I can use to get a decent but safe overclock as a starting point?

ie. would I just set the CPU voltage to 1.35v and then fiddle with the bclk just a little?

Would that be the OC sticky which has the current last post asking for it to be updated for i7s?

I haven't got a clue as I don't have any S1366 motherboard. However, since there are significant differences in the architecture it probably is.

Think trying to clock a 775 MB using setting for a AM2 MB?

oh okay, i figured it out I think.

I set the CPU and DRAM voltage to 1.25v
The bus voltage is 1.64v
the ram is at 1065mhz
The bclk is 177
and its at 3.5 ghz
everything else is auto

My heat is 64 max load and 32 minimum so far.

Does that look like its going to break something?

Sort of yeah.

Lol, just a bit.

The DRAM voltage, God knows why they name it that should be called the VTT. Anyway its the uncore voltage, to start with keep it less than the Vcore, -0.025 or so. Vcore can go higher, its going to depend a lot on your temps. You'll not break anything if you keep the voltage within reason and an eye on temps. Vcore/VTT to 1.4v is okif needed, CPU PLL 1.85v. DRAM bus is the memory, max 1.65v. If you have a monitoring application check out the other Auto values and make sure none go too high. Some scale with baseclock depending on the make/bios etc and can overvolt. The ram is underclocked, you have it on the lowest multiplier x6. You can use the next one x8, or maybe even the x10. The uncore frequency/multiplier must be twice the memorys or higher.

Well I apologise, I understand options ect will be different but the same general idea and way you went about it would be similar and worth reading if you had not clocked before.

Hi,

IMO those temps are nothing to worry about - I am of the opinion that anything under 90C @ load is fine, anything more and then it's probably gonna do some damage or keep BSOD'ing.

I have got my settings as follows:

CPU Multiplier: 19
BCLK: 190 (CPU @ 3.6Ghz)
DRAM Freq: 1523Mhz (or something close to that - whatever is closest to 1600)
CPU Volt: 1.3
QPI/DRAM Volt: 1.325
Everything else is set to auto.

My temps hit the low-mid 80's under sustained full load, and run between 38-42C at idle (both depend whether the central heating is on in my house!).
You mightbe able to get away with lowering the CPU voltage to 1.275 and the QPI/DRAM to 1.30. Just keep playing with it and you should hit a sweet spot.

Most 920's should be able to achieve a stable 3.6Ghz, no problem. Anything more is a bonus (on air).
