Hi just been playing with my rig (bored) and clocked it to 4.2Ghz @1.25v 21x200 i have run prime for 2 hours with a max temp of 84c my question is this ok for 24/7 use or would you go back to 4Ghz as temps are max of 72c after 2 hours of prime.
Thanks

Key question to ask is this, how often in a 24 hour period is the cpu at 100% load?

If the answer is most of that time, then id be more comfortable personally with the lower clock and temp, if the most it does day to day is gaming for example, then you wouldn't reach those temps, so nothing to worry about.

It really all depends on how often youd be at 100% and for how long, although 84c is high, its still comfortably under the max limit.

I mainly play games, the odd bench thats about it, i doubt my cpu hits 100% ever other than prime but like you say 80+c seems rather warm for everyday use and i doubt i'll see the difference in 200Mhz :)

Considering you'll never get those temps unless running a stress test program, I'd say your 4.2 GHz overclock is good for everyday use. Mine can hit 85C when stress testing if it's a hot day but I've never seen it above 70-75 when doing heavy 8-thread video encoding for example.

You should turn SpeedStep on if you haven't already though so that it only runs that fast when necessary.
