Hi guys.

I've recently got a new build and have been fiddling around with a little oc'ing.

CPU: i7 930
MOBO: Asus P6X58D-E
RAM: OCZ 1600mhz

Essentially I tried to get it up to 4.0ghz but it required over 1.32v which I wasn't overly keen on maintaining.

In order to the RAM running at the rated i've got a seemingly stable overclock of 200*19 = 3.8ghz using 1.25v. Allowing RAM at 1600Mhz 8-8-8-24, 1.5v.

My question really is that having trawled through the forum and internet all guides seem to concentrate purely on increasing bus speed only and leaving the the multiplier alone.

Is there a reason for this? Is it not a great idea to change the multiplier?

Temps at full load are at 80oC which seems ok considering im in quite a hot room and poor airflow.

Anyway thanks for any help guys.

Andy

With I7 the lower multi uses less vcore hence people running 18 or 19 multi's. I use 222 x 18 for 4ghz but you will need a good mobo and chip for that most common is 19 as BLCK 211 most x58's can do and should be stable at sub 1.3 vcore
