I hope someone could please help! I’m getting very frustrated now to say the least. :(

I’m having a few problems with my build, or more specifically temps/stability with the Overclocked bundle.

*OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz @ 4.00GHz / Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel DDR3 Bundle
Corsair H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler.

Corsair Obsidian 800D Full Tower Case
Corsair HX 1000W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - OEM
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache
Logitech G11 Gaming Keyboard
Sony Optiarc AD-7241S 24x DVDąRW SATA Lightscribe Optical Drive

Temps were too high, so the bundle was returned to OCUK who found the cooler to be faulty and the chip to be a poor overclocker.

So now I have the returned bundle with a new chip. Out went the H50 and in came a Prolimatech Megahalems and 2 x 120mm Sharkoon 1000 fans.
However, temps are still too high. I was told that it’s best for temps to be below 80C under load, but it's acceptable to be up to 85C.

I’m losing confidence that I have done things correctly. I have minimal PC building experience and zero overclocking knowledge.

I feel I have mounted the cooler correctly (I hope), but most probably not got the fans the right way, or not connected them on the correct power sockets on the mobo.

All I know is that my temps are too high (idle: 44C, under load: 88-93C). The bundle came with vcore set at 1.325v.

I’ve got some apps installed: OCCT, Prime95, CPUID, Core Temp and Speed Fan, so if anyone has the patience to help me, please let me know what you need me to do.

What thermal paste did use and how did you spread the thermal paste.

The fans have arrows on the casing to air flow and fan blade direction.

I used a pea sized blob in the middle of the CPU of Arctic Silver 5 rather than the paste that came with the cooler. I initially had a little bit of grief screwing down the last fixing plate during which time the cooler was moving about a bit.

Fan arrows point towards the rear exhaust of the case. I can feel hot air coming out the back of the case.

Arctic silver recommend a line down the center of the cpu rather than a pea size blob, but I would have thought this would not course to much problems.

How did you remove the old thermal paste.

I used a lint free cloth, but there was only a little bit of paste left around the edges of the CPU.

*** Edit *** Gonna have something to eat then try the line method. Maybe I applied a little too much paste. I hope it's that simple!

Ideally you need to use something like this to remove the residue from the old paste.

Wondering what else to try, bar reseating the cooler.

What ports on the motherboard are the fan's connected to, can you put them directly onto the psu so they run full speed.

I use the Thermalright Ultra Extreme with one Sharkoon 2000 fan and I get around 70c top and full load. (920 @ 4ghz)

I've connected the Sharkoon fans via a splitter on the CPU-FAN port. The rear case fan is connected to SYS_FAN3.

What's the best way to check if the fans are running at full speed?

Download HW Monitor, this will show you fan speeds.

Not sure how the cpu fan port will show as you have them connected together, you may need to try each fan individually or place one on another port.

What case do you have? What case fans do you have? TMPIN0, TMPIN1, TMPIN2 seem quite high compared to mine which are 27, 30, 24 respectively.

I've got two Silent eagles 1000rpm as intake, one Silent eagle 1000rpm as exhaust for my H50 and a 140mm top fan and my idle temps for a i5 750 at 4Ghz are around the 35 mark with load hitting 50 max.

They can't be that bad.

I think your problem is the silent eagles. They are a good silent case fan i have them on my case but i wouldnt dream of putting them on a cpu cooler as they dont shift enough air.
You will be better off putting a couple of apaches on or Scyth GT 1850 for noise/airflow or if your are not bothered about noise or

I read good reviews for the Swift 120p also.

Are these the Apaches you are referring to?

How much of a drop in temps can I expect with those? I have no problems with ordering some new cooler fans, but they won't arrive until Tuesday at the earliest.

So for now I want to try some other things such as reapplying paste and reseating the cooler.

I have the Corsair Obsidian 800D with stock case fans. I don't know what TMPIN0, TMPIN1, TMPIN2 refer to?

I have a single Sharkoon 2000 on my Thermalright ultra running 1000rpm, at full load the cpu is around 65c - done a quick 10min test.

Yes those are the right apaches.
A estimate would be atleast 5degs
the highest core on my i920 @ 4.ghz with the NH-D14 is 72degs thats with a front and rear (nexus basics 1000rpm) and a fractal 140mm top fan used as the exsaust. The antec 140mm stock fan is better than the fractal however it is not as quite.
Oh and i have the low noise filters on my cooler if i take them out the highest core is 69degs.
You have a much better case than my antec 300 thus i would expect to see significantly better temps.
Try a new thread asking what fans people are using with there coolers.
Off to watch the footy now. Good luck.
