I finally got this system up and running for just now. I noticed last night that CPU temps had went from around 35C at idle to 60C after a hour of Prime95, with a room temp of 22C.
That seems high to me for a i7 930 thats not been overclocked yet with a Magahalems stuck on top. I still have everything set to auto in BIOS. I've not had time to mess about with them yet so voltages maybe a little higher than normal.

The Vcore is still on Auto just now.
On Asus Probe it hovers around 1.20 on Prime95 then drops right off at idle.

I did a basic overclock last night to see how high the temps would go.
With a overclock of 3.8GHz a Vcore of 1.24 and CPU PLL of 1.90, the core temps went up to 0-76c, 1-75c, 2-73c, 3-74c after Prime95 running for 45 mins. Core 0 always seemed to run higher than the rest. The idle temps were about 43c. ( I didn't have time to let Prime run longer ).
They still seem on the high side to me.

I have the Overclockers.co.uk i7 930 oc'd to 4.2GHz bundle. It is stable and ran at 4.2GHZ, however the temps were horrible! Doing a Prime95 or LinX test, the temperatures would hit 90C! I have a Megahalem + Sharkoon CPU fan and a Antec 902 case with all fans running and I've reseated the cooler.

Have others managed to get a 4.2GHz overclock on a i7 930 on air with a reasonable temperature?

As before they're just high temp chips. I've read up a lot on it and the idea seems to be just to be comfortable with it. Not a great sounding thing I admit! But apparently intel have stated that it can handle temps of 90C quite comfortabley (although it is about as high as it should go before you should start to worry - it tops out at approx 100C).

I'm no OC genius (in fact I'm pretty terrible) but I spent (what was to me) a lot on this chip so had a decent research into it first :P

Does anyone have it with Water cooling? and did it improve temps by much?
