i7 950 3.2GHz

Hi there i am just asking if the i7 950 is good for gaming. Is it still considered a good CPU today, and does it beat a Phenom 955BE or should i just look for an i5 2500k. thanks.

Its a pretty powerful cpu yet for a gaming rig. However, if buying new now. Youd be better investing in the 2500k.

i am strongly thinking of upgrading and an i5 2500k is my first choice but i was thinking of other options.

The i7 900 series are getting on a bit now. Still very powerful cpu's, but you may as well go with the newer technology. They consume a bit less power, run a bit cooler and theyre very good overclocking chips.

just went from i7-950 at 4ghz to 2600k @.4.8 can well notice diff, was cheap upgrade for me, but if buying new or 2nd hand would go 2500-2600k way. also the newer cpu run so much cooler than the 950
