I need advise please, my friend want to built new pc, and want best i7 core for his big gaming performance. However, he asked me to ask ocuk which one is the best one on those two processor chipsets: i7 920 do stepping @ 2.66Ghz 4C/8T or go for better one i7 950 do stepping @ 3.06Ghz 4C/8T and will not overclocked it as he prefer to use cpu that come with it own stock cooler. He had a budget to buy up to £480.00 for cpu processor.

I just told him, just get i7 920 @ 2.66Ghz OEM and Corsair H50-1 for non-overclocked to save his money and can overclocked it in future if he prepared to do it!

What will he be using the machine for? If it is just for gaming, an i5 would be just as fast (except for multi-GPU setups).

If not overclocking with watercooling, the 950 is difficult to recommend - the performance difference between a 950 and a 920 at stock is not worth £250.

Have you suggested to your friend the OCUK pre-overclocked bundles? Specifically this one.

Ah, fair enough then - definitely the i7 920 D0 then, the 950 simply isn't worth the extra.

Then all you need to do is convince him how awesome overclocking is and get a decent aftermarket cooler :D

I wish him luck with the competitor. He's bought the right cooler and cpu, which fans did he get?

The 950 makes sense only if you're hitting bsck limits before the cpu tops out. Boards can generally do 220 bsck, good ones 235. With the 920 at x21, that's 4.6ghz at 220bsck. So unless you're aiming for over 4.5ghz, you don't want the 950.
