Hi, Ive currently got an I7 950 @ 4.22ghz. Would there be any point in upgrading to a sandybride for gaming ?, as it can get higher overclocks. I dont think gaming need anymore than 4ghz but im just wondering.

Thanks

Not really any point as your current rig is a beast. You've got serious GPU, i.e. more likely to be CPU bottlenecked than most, so you would probably see some gain with a 4.9GHz SB in demanding titles, but not much I wouldn't have thought. You're current rig surely doesn't struggle in anything, does it? - so if I were you I'd skip this new SB gen and save your pennies for the future when games are demanding the power of 6/8 core Ivy Bridge/Haswell/Bulldozer or whatever.

Aye thanks guys. Ill just stick with what ive got. ill save for the next generation of processor's aswell as graphics cards =).

No point whatsoever unless the cost of electrictly increases by a factor of 10 this year. Any gain/loss will be minimal and only noticeable within benchmarks.
