Luckily i'm getting a new shiny computer in about a week and it seems its just in time as my current computer seems to be playing up and i'm wondering if its on its last legs.

Its bascially seems quite sluggish these days and i seem to hear fans powering up and being quite loud even when its sat doing nothing.

I took a look at the temps doing various things but it means nothing to me. Can someone have a look and tell me if these seem normal.

Although i'm getting a new one this was meant to become a backup so i'm still intersted if its ok or dying on me.

This is the cooler:

Prolimatech Megahalems CPU Cooler w/ Akasa Apache Black 120mm

Looks like it isnt a heat problem then.

Hoiw much free space do you need on your OS hdd before it gets sluggish?

are you stock or overclocked? what ram and ram speed you using?

how much free space on your ssd? might help with a back up/secure erase and restore

This is the full spec:

• Case: Coolermaster HAF 912 PLUS – Black
• Power Supply: Corsair TX 750W
• CPU: Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz Overclocked to 4.00GHz
• Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth X58 TUF (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
• Cooler: Prolimatech Megahalems CPU Cooler w/ Akasa Apache Black 120mm
• RAM: Corsair Dominator (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit
• Hard Drive: Seagate Baracuda 7200.12 500GB 16MB Cache
• Graphics Card: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
• Sound: 7.1 Channel Sound (On-Board)
• Optical Drive: LG DVD+/-RW SATA Drive

spec looks ok,whats it feel sluggish in? id have the os on an ssd if you havnt already,if its on the seagate 500gb hdd that would make it feel sluggish

could add in a second akasa apache fan and have them in push/pull

Some time its just seems simple stuff like opening up explorer seems to take longer than it should.

In BF3 I was having glitches every say 20 seconds it would act like i had moved the mouse in some random direction despite keeping it straight the whole time.

Then recently when rendering it seems to grind to a total halt and you cant do anything, whereas previously it was always slow when rendering but you could at least, albeit slowly, do other things. I have just recently found out about turning off certain cores for certain programs which does help but its just different to how it was before.

And the last thing is that a fan in the computer seems to power up quite loud almost at random as i wont be in game or anything but it sounds like it is.

The OS is on the SSD but it is getting a bit full, and need to keep emptying it, problem being theres not much that can be stripped.

they do heat up quick those chips and cool down, things like opening web browser would make fan spin up slightly depending on cpu temp spike

thing is the sb/ib chips arnt much quicker,sb is cooler but speed isnt that much faster imo

maybe a bigger ssd and newer gpu would help things? idk how you feel about it or just upgrade the cpu/mb/ram

I also have an i7 950 (slight OC to 3.6GHz)

I recently downsized my case, but while I was at it:
- Cleaned the GPU (GTX295) out with compressed air
- Re-applied the cooler and TIM
- Installed Win7x64 (old OS Vistax64) on a new SSD

Feels like a new machine again.

Thanks for the help guys.

No real need to upgrade as i get my new computer tommorow but at least if i know this o0ne isnt about to die, then once i have got all the files i need off, i'll give it a format and it should be good as new. I was worried there was something more serious wrong but seems not.
