I7 965

I'd imagine they are slightly higher quality parts.

BUT most 920's clock to 3.8 fairly easily, so even if a 965 does manage 4.2 you're talking about paying an extra £580 for a mere 400MHz.

Hi, I got my 920 prime stable at 4gig so I am more than happy , with most x58 boards you get Turbo which gives you an extra X1 on the multi so I think max you can do on the Multiplier is 21

Ahhhhh, that would explain how I keep seeing screenshots of 920s running 21 multipliers, but nothing higher! I didn't think Intel would release a budget chip with the multi fully unlocked.

As an i7 965 buyer I would admit it wasnt money well spent, When Westmere hits I'll definately read some reviews before parting with any cash.

so what would you guys reccommend for the time being then cos i'm considering upgrading my stuff also but i don't know wether to upgrade to the I7 platform or if it would be just better to get a Q9650 for my P45 board since the prices seem like their coming down quite a bit for that processor now? btw, at the minute i'm using an E8500 on an Asus P45 P5Q3 deluxe Wi-Fi board.

I wouldn't upgrade from that at all, unless I was using software that needs more than two cores.

Oh wait.

No, I would upgrade. Technolust is a harsh mistress :( :D

They're an overpriced waste of time. They will be even more when the new extreme chip comes out (which is soon IIRC)

i have never seen a 965 go past 4.3

and 500mhz over most 920 chips is not worth anybodies extra £500

now 920s etc have unlocked multis they are a complete waste

Hmmm, where did you hear about this, I thought that the 920 and 940 had locked multipliers... and only Extreme Edition Intel CPU's had unlocked multipliers...

Going to be starting my i7 build this week, I am in the process of moving house first though, which is seriously stressing me out!!!!

But when the time comes to start my i7 build that will make up for all the stress of moving home!!!!!

hey not being funny but my multi is 21 on the 920 with out the turbo mode on, it used to be 20 but new boios it goes straight up to 21
