Is this much faster at Tri Sli than my OCed I7 920?

I`m thinking of games like BF 3 and Crysis 3?

Will I see much difference if I change to this 6 core chip?

Hi, no a 6 core does not make that much difference when gaming but encoding and such like yes. I would have went 6 core age's ago if it did, not much left for you to upgrade really

Either go X79 or Haswell is the only thing left for us still running X58.:)

Actually yes, Crysis 3 and BF3 are among games that will make use of 8 cores never mind 6.

If you have Tri-SLI GTX 680's i would think it will make a difference, the 4 core 920 will bottleneck those GPU's as i'm sure you know, adding the extra 2 cores will cure most if not all of that bottleneck.

Hi, sorry about that it may make a difference in the likes of B3 but on the whole no. Considering the cost even second hand, as for bottling 4.3ghz by how much?

Below is a review of a 680 sli and tri with a X58 i7 965x[4 core at 3.8ghz] and a X79 I7 3960k[6 core at4.6ghz]

Review"CPU scaling wise we again see noticeable differences, but you have to wonder whether X79 / 3960X is really worth the extra 15 to 20% performance"

It would be even less with a i7 970x/980x as the OP is at 4.3ghz seeing the above, is it worth the cost of buying even second hand. The OP would be better putting the money to a full upgrade.

Yeah, agreed ^^^^ :)

Not convinced to be honest. Cr3 might like it, but bf3 mp its more about the clock speed.

680 sli scales bad anyway...

Id go x79 if your looking to scratch an itch.

Where it has got 6 cores it is slightly less efficient (per core) than a 920 in the same way a 6 core 3930k is slightly less efficient than a 2600k, the difference is tiny though.

If you can use all 6 cores it is a nice improvement but not for gaming.

I use both an i7 975 and i7 980, for gaming there is no difference.
