I'm not an AMD fan boy, I know the title will trigger a few.
Considering AMD are pushing the envelope, especially with ryzen 3000 series, Intels 9700k, a 8 core without hyper threading? Which is Priced more than the 2700x. It's essentially an i5, the 9900k being labelled an i9 imo makes it easier to label the modern day i5 as an i7! Old habits die hard

Thoughts? Alarming to see **** like this from Nvidia/apple/intel. Thank god for AdoredTv exposing this.... Competition is always good, text book example.

Will people be jumping ship come may?

End of rant

Fully star out swearing.

Not competition is always good. AMD is always good. I will agree a market without intel, with AMD the only supplier and I am sure the market will receive performance upgrades every year much bigger than what intel did from i7-2600 through i7-7700K.
AMD is now the market and technology leader.

Given I spend about 10 seconds a year decompressing 7-Zip files, yes.

It has its uses. Mainly video encoding, and 7-Zip apparently. The rest of the time it's not worth £100 extra over an i5. ;)

I've got it disabled on my 7740X, as it makes iRacing stutter at times.

"Intel's last cash grab"

I think you are massively underestimating Intel. Just look at the F SKU of the 9 series for example, a 9 series with a broken igpu for the same price as a working one. I hope and expect that the zen 2 parts from AMD will force Intel to drop their prices, or innovate, or ideally both.

A quad core without SMT will bottleneck pretty much any modern title with a half decent GPU already, and this will only get worse in the future. SMT is definitely useful for games, although obviously it becomes less useful as you get more real cores.

Oh, you bought one of those...

Half the reason why we have not bothered stocking the F SKU, its the same price and there is no OC advantage that we can see, so you get less, but at same price. The reasoning I believe is because K SKU availability is terrible.

It was hilariously cheap on clear out. The 7740X and a brand new Aorus X299 board cost less than a 7700K CPU.

It's just the thing for iRacing which loves fast single threaded performance. And there's an upgrade path in future, which there wasn't with Z270.

most bait title ever lol. time is always relevant. you have one of the fastest gaming cpus. it has its uses. amd cpus not close currently. still might not be in summer. HT matters in somethings but for games mostly single core. this is why unless the new amd chips are 4.5ghz or above not interested. if they matched intel ipc then have they matched the core speed ? doubt it. so these waste of time cash grab intel chips will still be top of the pile in gaming. in before amd super sayan fanboy 5ghz zen 2 at stock replies. :p

I'm guessing you fell asleep during CES when the Ryzen 5 beat the i9

please dont start that shizzle. all they did was slightly beat at cinebench . gaming is a different thing all together. all they have shown is as posted already. they close on ipc. intels clock higher. so it doesnt take a genius to work out more than likely they are still behind in gaming. which is what you would buy a intel chip like a k series for. not cinebench.

that was just a bit of titillation to keep the hype train trundling along, everyone would stop buying ryzen+ if they revealed proper benchmarks
