i7 9700k Processor / Motherboard problem

Hi,

I'm was getting no signal from the monitor when using the computer. The graphic card (1070ti) and power supply are fine (tested in another system), and I've tried connecting via hdmi and vga cable without the gfx plugged in.

I noticed that my motherboard processor socket had a few pins bent on purchase and I've since returned it for replacement.
I got a little thermal paste on the golden pins on the cpu and now I'm wondering if that could have been the problem too.

I cleaned it off as best I could with alcohol and cotton buds and it looks clean. Is it a chance it will work in another motherboard or am I looking at buying a new processor too?

Cheers.

Dan

No it's been used in an older motherboard. I replaced the motherboard and when reassembling realised that the pins in the socket were bent. So with a new motherboard, it should be fine?

Thankfully you guys were right and it wasn't the processor. I bought a new motherboard and my good mate helped me put it all together. And I'm back up and running with my i7900k. Phew.
Cheers for your help.

They're not pins but pads.

How did you get it on the other side? Are you sure that's what it was?

I've seen them pads get tarnished through heat many of times. But either way,if it's was the usual TIM it should be fine.

Yeah when setting the Cpu, I'd put it in the slot the wrong way. Long story short, I'm an idiot.

Had paste on my hands when taking it back out and got it on the pads. After cleaning it could get no signal but noticed the pins on the board were bent.

Replaced the board and everything works now, but panicked that I'd ruined the processor too.

Moral. Get someone who knows what they are doing to help. :)
