i7 9700k vs i9 9900 kf

No. HT has very little benefit in games and in some cases even reduces performance. The iGPU on the 9700K might also come in useful if you are ever between graphics cards.

I never understood the fascination with the -F SKUs. They are literally the same MSRP as the non-F SKUs and lack the iGPU which might be useful one day if your GPU blows up or you can utilise QuickSync during rendering, etc. The i9-9900K is literally £15 cheaper right now than the i9-9900KF.

Depends what you mean by "mainly" gaming. The top end Intel and AMD CPUs are all fine for gaming, you'll only see any difference on the most expensive graphics cards and at 1080p. Mid range cards or 1440p+ and there's nothing between them.

I wouldn't get the 9900K though, it's rarely any faster than the 9700K in gaming.

thank you all, looks like the i7 9700k is winning over the i9 and 3700x

If you intend to keep the CPU as long as your Core i5 3570K I wouldn't be getting the Core i7 9700K just because it does better in games based on older engines. Remember how years ago the 4C Core i5 7600K was close to the 4C/8T Core i7 7700K,and now the latter is moving ahead. Even the Ryzen 5 1600 is starting to show more consistent performance in some newer games over the Core i5 7600K which a few years people were being told to buy over the same Ryzen CPU.

People here will promise that the Core i7 9700K will be the same as the Core i9 9900K for the next 5 to 7 years, but I don't think it will. Intel is pushing forward core counts too - if the 10C CPUs slot in at he same price as the current 8C ones next year,8C will be be pushed down the stack.

Once they are on 10NM/7NM say in 2021,they will add more cores too.

The next consoles will have 8C/16T Zen 2 CPUs,so I would buy a Ryzen 7 3700X,Ryzen 9 3900X or Core i9 9900K if spending so much money. If you want something a bit cheaper a Ryzen 5 3600 with 6C/12T will do the trick.

I would like it to last as long as my i5 has, I would say that I have had it around 6 years

If you want to keep it for 6 years I'd go for the 3700X or a 3900X. If games start using more than 8 threads within 5 years (which is very possible) then the 9700K will struggle, and to justify the 9900K you really need a 2080Ti graphics card.

Then ignore the Core i7 9700K now - it might look good now,but I would say it will age worse. So IMHO:
1.)Ryzen 5 3600 - the spiritual successor to your Core i5 as a value for money mainstream gaming CPU
2.)Ryzen 7 3700X - also decent value if you want a bit more longevity
3.)Core i9 9900K/Ryzen 9 3900X - if you have a lot of money. The Core i9 9900K will perform a bit better in those older titles,as it has the edge in single core performance, but any future titles which thread better the Ryzen 9 3900X will be faster.
