Hi guys,

My i7 990X passed away last night. Upon check the FPO on the Intel warranty website, it shows that my cpu has warranty till 2018 . Currently I am using another rig so no time pressure on this CPU. I was just wondering that:
1. If I'd RMA it now what CPU would they replace?
2. If I'd wait until 2018, Would they still have a 990X to replace for me or they would give me something else (Skylake-E ) ?

Thanks in advance!

Danny

Interesting one... If they give you a new equivalent, that wouldn't work as you would need a new motherboard, and maybe new RAM...

They might find a 990X "out back"? :p

Last time I RMAed with them I asked about the replacement policy and they made it pretty clear that they only replace an identical item only. But this CPU has been released quite some time already. I am not sure if they still have some in stock to actually replace it now. :p
What would happen in 2018 if I'd wait until that point is concerning me the most tho. :p
I wouldn't mind which cpu they would give me back, as long as it was an extreme edition and has at least 6 cores though :D

i would think they would still have some 3960/3970x or 4960x still in stock if they dont have any 990x. i dont think you'll get a 5960x.

please don't kill my hope :(

to be honest, I would prefer a new i7 990X or a 3970X rather than others as I already have them. :)
