Just had a quick search and found some relevant threads, BUT a bit of advice.

Firstly is the mobile version the same as the desktop version in benchmarks? Or do laptops get a watered down version?

Also why do people say that the CPU is not as good as the latest Sandybridge CPUs? In the lists ive seen it still sits at the top... so it must be still relevant in todays hardware?

Finally, I know its not ideal for gaming... but will it allow me to have max performance in games? (Assuming its alongside a solid SLI setup?)

Really just looking for 990X feedback tbh, no im not willy waving :D

An i5-2500K or i7-2600K would be faster than an i7-990X core-for-core and clock-for-clock. They also overclock higher, on average. The i7-990X only takes the lead in heavily threaded applications that can utilise the extra cores it has over the i5-2500K and i7-2600K.

For the price, it isn't worth it for gamers or 99.9% of other users. An i5-2500K provides the best performance per £ for gamers, the i7-2600K is better for those doing video encoding etc. too. The i7-990X is still Intel's flagship CPU but is never cost-efficient.

For gaming the Core i5 i7 2500/2600K are faster but if you use Heavy CPU applications like i do for work, You can't beat the 990X.

So are we saying that the 990X will be a problem for the latest games?

That it will be a bottleneck in a system?
