Hi guys, the thing is Im getting conflicting answers from other sites saying i should stay with my E8400, people say "do you really need it?" not to sure of where to go, i mean i would like to go quad come september (got money to go high end) , what do you guys think?

Upgrading to i7 now will give you a rig that can happily rip through any games for the next few years, however with Sandy Bridge and 32nm AMD chips just around the corner I've decided to wait and skip this current generation of sockets (as have many others).

Stick with what you have for the time being
Going AMD at this stage will see you no gains in games in real terms not coming from a 4ghz 8400
If you must have a quad then look at a used Q6600 or Q9550 and stick with your current rig until sandy bridge.
Even the 6 core amds cannot compete with i7 so a x4 will be a waste of time and effort.
Id say get a cheap i7/i5 system now. When the sandy bridge comes out it will be very expensive, also I heard they will be implementing new ram which would also cost more and the high performing ram wouldnt be released straight away. So even with the release you'd still have to wait a while before it became affordable.

from what i have read i will just be a new way for ram to operate, they are calling it xmp. and there are kits that are xmp ready availible now tha arent that pricey, i cant remember all the details but google xmp ready ddr3
XMP is a motherboard thing (I'm unsure if it's new to the x58 chipsets)- it's a way to manually control the memory - the memory itself isn't 'xmp compatible' or anything, xmp can be used on all ram.
For example I used XMP on my Geil memory to OC it from the auto standard 1066 up to it's potential speed of 1600! (Nice and easy tool
