My i7 components have arrived and I'm really excited although parents say I have to wait till Christmas before I start building.

Anyway I've never built a pc from scratch before but I've looked up all the hardware side, but are there any software programs I should use to check its stability once the OS is installed? (I'm not looking to overclock straight away, just check I built it succesfully)

Zalman 850W psu
Asus Triton 81
Antec 1200
Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB 32MB cache
G.Skill 3Gb Triple Channel 1333MHz
Samsung sata dual layer rewriter

Do Orthos and prime 95 run a "stress test" because components are more likely to fail early on.

I've got vista home premium 64bit edition (looking to increase my ram later on, to about 6Gb)

just get it all together, booting up and working before you start clocking, being as you've never built from scratch before, have it running for a day or 2 after all you're software is loaded then give clocking a go.

if possible give ya self as much space and light to work in.

always worth putting the kit together on top of the mobo box and making sure it powers up okay before putting it in the case, if all the power leads etc will reach.

Sounds like good advice. I'll get it going normally before tampering with it.

Oh I've got a tv card from my old pc and my dad has one that he never uses, is it possible to install both in the spare pci ports, and use them as a dual tuner or do dual tuners have to be bought as one unit?
