Mainly for school work and playing the odd game. I know it's a lot more powerful than needed for that but I want something thats going to last me and will be quite powerful, also upgrade proof!

Its pritty awesome.
But the cost is about exactly the same as the goliath.
So I would buy that instead, and get the OCing they do for it for the extra buck and pre built.

I see what you mean, however my build would be around £150 cheaper although it wouldn't be overclocked and I would have to do that myself.

Thanks :)

With a decent cooler and about 5 mins work setting up you'll most likely be Prime stable at 3.5 GHz if not even faster.

If I was buying that then I'd either get an SSD for the Operating System

Another 640GB drive to raid for games/apps etc.

Or do both.
the twin platter 640's are fast drives but very fast in raid.

Obviously depends on your budjet and how much extra performance you like to have/want to spend on. :D

Well an SSD definitly be a future upgrade probably along with a RAID set up!

Thanks for all the advice :)

Looks good mate. In case you did not know you can get Win 7 a lot cheaper than the RRP as you are a student. Good luck with the build. :)

I'm only 16 and won't be starting 6th form until september. I guess this isnt old enough to qualify for the £30 Windows 7?

Thanks :)

Well it's still a few months away before I start post 16 education and my sixth form is being built adjacent to my current school and it's not completed yet so I don't think things like that will have been sorted. Thanks anyway :)

The £30 offer ran out a week or so ago, but you can get it from Software4Students for about £36 and you don't have to have a valid email address.

- Should run like a dream, if you plan to overclock 4ghz etc get something like the corsair H50-1 cpu cooler.

- Dont worry about overclocking, as overclocking an i7 is very easy and 10001 tuts around on how to do it.

Maniacfest - Isn't that the upgrade version only? If not, link me :D

atmax1 - Thanks for that :) I'll probably overclock to 4GHZ + a bit later on, but might change my mind at that last minute :O

oooooo I found this on the bottom of the page:

For this software to install correctly customers must have ONE of the following:

1. a previous Windows OS (XP/Vista) currently installed on the computer or laptop, or
2. the serial key from a previous Windows OS (XP/Vista) which must be entered in order for the upgrade DVD to install the full version of Windows 7 onto a blank harddrive.

Either way, you MUST own a license to a previous version of Windows XP / Vista.

Does this mean I can use the product key from the bottom of my Laptop on my new harddrive? :D
