Hi folks,

Just setup my new system, and having a slightly annoying issue. The pc is making some strange noises. This happens randomly, but certain things make it far worse. i.e. transferring files over the onboard Ethernet.

The noise itself would be best described as the old style MODEM noises

The cpu,mb and ram are new:

Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58
Patriot Viper 6GB PC3-12800C8 (1600MHz)
ATI 5850

Any ideas?

Edit: Should just point out that apart from the noise it seems to be running perfectly, its a little odd :)

Just had a look in the bios and can't see an option for it anywhere. Everything is pretty much on default at the moment

Yeah both of those where enabled, disabled them now and it seems to have stopped. just going to grab my laptop and copy something over :)

Any downside to disabling those?

Yup its deffinatly stopped with C1E and EIST disabled, cheers :)

Any idea why they cause the noise? do i need to return the mb if its a fault?

Mine does the same, I have the older std UD5, I think it's the MOSFETS - or what ever they are called around the cpu which make the noise.
