I7 Build Quiz

I've just found out from Silverstone that The new FT02B v4 (Windowless with AP181's etc) is out at the end of this month so I'm gonna wait and see how much they're gonna be before I take the plunge and order everything :)

WOOOHOOO!

Hi everyone :)

Well I've just built my first pc! I'd like to thank you all for the help
It was so much fun...annnnd it went without a single hitch!!
I finally decided on:
I7 950 - plopped into the motherboard like silk
P6X58D-E - NICE!!
6GB Corsair XMS 3 - All Recognised 1st time
Silverstone FT02B V1.4 - Sooo Pretty :) And it has the AP181 fans included!
Corsair HX850 PSU - Nice PSU but I'm not happy with the sata power cables as they have too many connections which get in the way when trying to tuck them behind MB tray :/ Any idea where I can get one with just one conector on the end?
Sony optiarc 24x DVD RW - fits in the top bay no problems :)
64GB C300 SSD - Everyone that said get one of these was right! :)
1TB Sammy F3 Spinpoint - what it says on the tin
Windows 7 Home premium - Joy to use
N460GTX Cyclone OC edit- tried the crysis demo and it plays everything on high - maybe I will get another one and try for Very High!?
Thermalright Silver arrow - HUGE!! I've tightened it as much as possible but it still wiggles a little...is that normal? also I have attached one of the fans to the cpu fan header on the mb and the other to chassis fan header... is this ok? and what should I do now to control them?

Now all I need to do is some cable management (it's not pretty at the moment) and find some tutorials on getting the most out of this sucker (recommendations?)....then probably onto OC'ing? ...then onto build number 2!! LOL!

Also need to decide on which monitor to get?...tempted to either get 2 U2311's or 1 U2410? I've looked in the monitor forums and they both have pro's and cons obviously...and do I really need an ips monitor as I am no way a professional...photoshop, maya and zbrush are hobbies at the moment :p

thanks AGAIN!

I haven't got a camera at the moment as it was stolen, but I'll borrow one and you can all laugh at my cable management (or lack there of) :p

Nice to see a follow up to a spec-me thread. So all that remains is the overclock :).

What you'd probably most like with an IPS (or what I most dislike about my TN as great as it is) is the lack of brightness shift if you move your head up/down. That characteristic of a TN isn't really an issue in most uses (as you dont really tend to move your head up/down a lot) but can be a nuissance if you'll be the kind of user who wants to calibrate the gamma etc and get really accurate and consistent what-you-see-is-what-you-get editing a photo for printing, for example. If you dont think those issues will bother you you'll be fine with a decent TN. Having said that if you can afford an IPS you'll probably never look at a TN again :)

Thanks Liam :)

I'm finding the Monitor issue just as daunting as the pc build itself!?
The sammy xl2370 first caught my eye (mainly for its looks) but then I saw a U2311 at a similar price point which from what I can gather is better? then obviously the U2410 seems even better than that!? where will it stop? LOL
All monitors seem to have lots of pros and cons which all cancel each other out
I'm certainly leaning heavily towards ips screens (mainly as Photoshop and zbrush will be my main use) they just seem better on paper?
Thing is if money was no issue I'd probably run out and buy 2 U2410's but having just spent £1200 or so on a new pc I'm not as flush as I was LOL!
If I get one U2410 it'll be several months before I can get a second one where as if I go with the u2311 it would be much sooner...
or should I not be so worried about TN panel flaws and rush out and buy 3 Benq g2420hdbl's and another GTX460? (Probably wont do that...or will I???)
Nvidia surround is alluring ; p

I'm considering the HP ZR24w, which is a little cheaper and more 'consumer-focused' than the U2410. Might be worth a look?

Thanks reflux :)

Seems like the ZR24w is good too! Price wise £100 more than u2311 £100 less than u2410 now I'm really confused! LOL!
Image wise it seems VERY close to the U2410
Why did you choose that over the Dell's ??? What was your reasoning? It'll help me to understand my needs too I think? :)

Weighed up all the pro's and cons etc .... I'm gonna give the u2311 a whirl... it just seems better value as I'll be more inclined to get a second and perhaps third? :)

I'll let you know if I'm happy with my decission after tomorrow *fingers crossed* :)

As to my other problems.... does any one know if NZXT or anyone else do a sleeved six pin single sata power cable which I could use to connect my DVD drive as the one that came with the corsair HX850 has several sata conections along its length making it impossible to manage behind the motherboard tray.

Also should my Silverarrow be able to wiggle? or should it be unmoveable?

Thanks for any suggestions!
