Some of you may have seen my post the other day where I was debating upgrading my old rig or treating myself to a new one. A friend of mine has decided that he is interested in taking the old rig off my hands for a couple of hundred quid, so I've decided to bite the bullet and treat myself to a brand new toy.

Budget is £2k - will be used solely for gaming, I do run a second monitor - usually just to have msn / firefox open, but I couldnt live without it after all these years.

I've had a little play, and I've got the start of an idea forming - have a look at this.

Some people will probably criticise the case choice, as its not the most pleasing to the eye - I'm not too concerned about that though, as long as it does the job.

The remaining bits, I'm not too sure about. Part of me says go for a 1TB drive to install stuff, and then 2xSSD in RAID for the OS drive, although is it really that much of a performance increase.

Also, Blu-Ray - I'm in two minds, drives are not that expensive now, but my PS3 will take care of all my Blu-Ray film needs, and I cant see games moving over to Blu-Ray in the next 12 months, and even then I can just go purchase a drive.

Any suggestions, anything major I'm doing wrong?

All help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Looks good to me. That particular 4870X2 is more expensive than most, but I do like the cooling solution on it, and it is very fast.
I have heard good things about Biostar motherboards, so that should be a good bet.

dont get that cpu cooler and i wouldnt bother getting it all in a bundle. Get a noctua, that one is rubbish.

I would also get a asus p6t instead as i just bought a biostar and im trying to sell it and i cant get any interest. Asus are a litte better known.

The advantage of getting it all in a bundle is so that I dont have to overclock it myself. I dont have the technical ability to do something like that, and I'd be too worried about making a balls up of it.

You'll have to do it yourself anyway, it's not pre overclocked, ocuk just provide you with the intructions on how to do it yourself with the added benefit that it's covered by the warranty shoud it not work at those speeds.

Yeah I can manage that as long as the settings are written there for me, its just I dont have the ability to mess around with the settings myself.

With regards to the rest of my post though, is two SSD drives in RAID that much better than just lumping a 1 TB drive in there?

and with regards to the Modular PSU, any particular reason?

Cheers
