So i just recieved my lovely core i7 950 from Intel and i've got a nice shiney Foxconn Flaming Blade board here.

I'll be honest, i've never had an Intel system, always had AMD so is there anything i need to know about this setup? Any particular settings that need setting etc...?

Thanks,

andy

Just be prepared to wrestle with the pushpins on the cooler!

Make sure you put the chip in the right way with the little arrow in the corner! other than that its pretty easy!

No real difference between setting up and AMD or an Intel...just make sure you line up the CPU properly and use the recommended RAM slots..found in the motherboard manual for optimum performance (which is the same for all pc builds)..have fun overclocking!! :-)

What am i likely to get from this i7 950 on stock cooling?

Got a nice hefty 1200watt PSU to test it with :D

The Intel stock cooler...is not for someone who wants to OC...get a decent cooler...H50 does fantastic for me at 4GHZ...not sure what the i5 is like for OCs though, but if its anything like the i7 3.8-4 will run fine for the long run!

Personally, I would leave your i7 at stock until you can get a decent aftermarket cooler for it. The Intel stock cooler is pretty lame and will not be able to handle much. You might be able to get up to 3.0Ghz (maybe 3.2Ghz) safely but for the real fun you need something that will keep you cool all the way up to 4Ghz, and beyond!

Watch out for tears in the space-time continuum. Re-entry can be a bit bumpy.

I went for the 950 over the 920 as i didnt pay for it. It was a gift from Intel.

I've got a Prolimatech Megahalems here i could use, just got to see what noctua fans i've got to go with it i guess.
