Can anyone recommend an i7 cooler that will fit under the roof of the antec skeleton. I'm planning on taking the i7 up to about 3.8 or 4 so stock cooler will have to go.

I'm currently running a Q6600 with a ZalmanCNPS9500A and it fits under, but only just, so i'm looking for something about the same size for the new chip/mobo. I've searched Zalman and they don't seem to do that model with a i7 mount

I know from other threads this is a marmite case, and i've already heard all the jokes and comments about it, so please just good knowledge and advice would be much appreciated (yeah i know buy another case hah hah)

Seriously though all advice appreciated

try looking for the 9900, my mate has an i7 zalman cooler ;)

Cheers Sasso, Is he running it in a skeleton?
Also, your sig looks almost identical to the spec i'm putting together, i'd be interrested in how it all hangs together, do you wish you'd spent more or less in certain areas, or wish you'd got other bits instead?

uhhh nah he doesnt have a skelly as far as i know. well if ya check my other thread "cpu stable, ram unstable" ive posted some info up there. well ive gotten to 4GHz and just goot run the IBT with 16 threads not 8 and see if its stable. if so then i got 4GHz with a vcore of ummm 1.2 somthing so pretty good :D temps high 60 to low 70 :) so gunna keep pushing.

im pretty happy with all i spent,i was going for the OCZ reaper ram but they didnt have any instock (even tho it said they did when i ordered :p ) so went for the dominator instead. cpu is gr8 :D maybe wished i waited a few weeks with the 275 as its dropped by liek 20-30£ and is overclocked now (yet to try clocking myself). would have like a raptor HDD but too expensive for the time being. would liek toget a new sound card as its really old now and starting to cause problems (think incombatability with x58). TRUE is a beast of a cooler and is now lapped :) always kept my e8400 really cool. what is ya system spec? if ya want ill keep updating my other post with my bios settings so u can try for the same clocks (or higher ;) )

cheers Sasso

Would much appreciate the bios figs.
had a good look online at all the options re the cooler, and it's starting to look like I may need to remove one of the spars from the rear of the case or trim the fan flange a bit (how great a word is flange?). which cooler are you using?

Ram is one of the things that's really stumping me as there appears to be so much choice around the £100 mark, with corsair alone doing 3 dif speeds and CAS's in that region. is it better to go for a higher speed or lower CAS???

im using the thermalright ultra extreme 120 :) i had it for my e8400, and bought the 1366 brace so it wouyld fit on this new mobo. gald i did too, its doing pretty damm well :D on stocks it idles 31-39 and loaded barely touches 60 (55/57-60/61) at first the temps were higher and i was worried about it but after a few days i think the AS5 paste cured and the temps seemed lower :D lapped it too ;)

and well i dont think timings matter too much, are you honestly going to notice a difference between 88824 and 99928? (i dont know how you would even notice xP ) i just went for 1600 as it leaves some good room for overclocking. at 4Ghz i got the mem at 1503Mhz, so theres still some room to push the clocks higher :) my mate recommended me the dominator ram as he's had corsair for years and never had a problem with any of their memory. glad i listenned, my old ram used to cook, these sticks stay nice and cool :)

I've seen pics of a modified skeleton that will take bigger coolers but it involved cutting into the plastic.

cheers avrc, haven't heard from you in a while, how's it going?

looks like that's what i'm gonna have to do, in which case I might as well go for a good un what do you reckon? got my eyes on the fenrir titan

even with chopping it still can't be above 160mm without having to chop intothe top fan assembly which I really don't want to do

Cheers avrc

have gone for the titan fenrir in the end. would have liked to have gone bigger but the titan is the biggest I can fit in where I will only have to cut through the skeletons fan cowling and not the black plastic of the fan supports themselves, which I think would be a bad idea. Even then i'm dealing with a very small tolerance as to whether it fits, about 2-3 mm.

having to take it all apart and cut it about i'm thinking of doing a bit of modding, perhaps a respray also, thinking black with the cowling in yellow. I'll probably post on the "modding the antec skeleton" as I go along
