I7 gaming build queries

Why you recommending this CPU cooler to the OP? You got one and it's fab? Or perhaps a tech review linky to support the recommendation perhaps.

Why 8Gb of RAM? OCuK won't guarantee a OC with more than the stated RAM if he buys a bundle or pre built... you know?

and whats your problem? may be you should read first open month second,I put quote:might be worth you waiting for these to come out see what the reviews where like,as for the ram well someone already explained that to you, think you should spend your time reading on info instead of trying to flame other members who know more than you do.:D

practice what you preach

from post #1

"a new gaming rig for the primary use being to Play world of warcraft"

From your own vast EXPERIENCE you would really recommend 8Gb of RAM for this game? (remember it's his PRIMARY task)

Even though the OP later states that he would like at least 6Gb you would better serve him by telling him that it's not really needed, currently with 6Gb of DDR3 triple channel, I'm using 42% max in game (WoW)

I conceded gracefully, but from my own EXPERIENCE, 2 years ago, asking for a RAM change makes no difference at all to a standard pre built ie. swapping 2 x 2GB sticks for 2 x 4Gb sticks will get you the exact same system. By that I mean the RAM timings will be exactly the same. No benefit at all except a bigger hole in your pocket. The OP has stated that his OC'ing knowledge is limited and he's not willing to risk fiddling with a nice brand new rig.

Stick to your OWN knowledge and EXPERIENCE when recommending how someone else spends their hard earned cash.

Been pondering over my build all day, and after so much disputing i have come up with my own build! ( Listed below) , hopefully OC Will be happy to put it together and do an Overclock on the system for me, But if not; looks like im taking the plunge of building and overclocking my own system! (Seeing how helpful you all are, it doesent seem such a scary prospect! :D ) Anyhow, i do have a few questions about this build and im sure you guys will be able to give me some good hints and tips about the build, My main concern is the PSU, Will 750W Be enough to power this rig? and does it leave me with the possibility of putting another 570 In SLI, i would rather pay more money for a higher Watt PSU and have the open possibility of SLI than using a lower Watt PSU and not having that option open to me, would be a killer having to buy a new PSU just for that, Also the 902 case..This case is what catches my eye most and looks best value for money, but would it be worth the money upgrading to a Antec LanBoy air? Been looking at the 2x4GB RipJaw RAM but from what Essexraptor has posted it seems that all i will need is 4GB, May aswell go for the faster speed RAM. Any other worthwhile modifications / addons for my build? Cheers guys!

WoW is a CPU intensive game and the 4Gb of dual channel DDR3 is more than enough.

:)

Own 2 Antec's at the moment (1200, slightly modded and a DF85). The fans that come with the 902 are very capable for a starting point, so save your 20 quid f0r something else. (the side fan adds very little to a very good standard cooling case) The LanBoy Air is not one I personally would choose. Too much dust to get in that baby. Cases are a personal thing. Swing by the Case Section and get a feel for what the guys are currently using and the pros and cons of each? :)

Graphics wise... if WoW is still your primary role for this rig... what resolution monitor do you currently have? A lowly HD5770 or a better GTX460 would be more than capable for mid to high settings. If your looking more long term then go for a AMD 68/69** series or a 570 but look to the best single GPU for now. XFire/SLI setups are a nice "must have" but rarely become reality or if they do, don't last long once you realise that it just does not add up cost wise. :)

You plan to watch/burn many BluRays? Watched about 8 in a year on mine and spends most of the time dormant. Could save another 40+ quid by buying a standard DVDRW which will probably see little service after the initial installation and play with new toy period :)

Same with sound.. you've selected the D2X... nice card but the £21 Xonar DG connected to my Kave's blows my ears off (and upsets the wife when I connect the speakers up!!) Again wander over to the Sound section for some more advise :)

I'm not trying to put a dampener on your selection, just trying to get you to avoid falling into the same trap as myself and many others before. That of spending out loads of dosh in one go as a cure all. Get the base system right first and upgrade and adapt as you learn/need more. Research, research some more and ask before sploshing the dosh!

What about the power supply? Is the corsair TX 750W enough?

Going to stick with the 4GB RAM, Antec 902, and ill downgrade the card to what you have, also the bluray drive to a DVDRW, And just buy 2x GTX 570, its all being bought for me as a present, as a result of me passing some GCSE's early ( At A Grade :D ), so may aswell go all out and SLI Now rather than spend my own money on it later :)

And monitor resolution? I'm buying a Iiyama ProLite E2407HDS 24" with the build, which is 1920x1080.

Again thankyou very much for the help, It is very much aprechiated!

Edit: Might sound silly, but any other cable/ribbons ill need?

Sorry for the delay

Congrats on your exams :)

I had a quick look at the power usage on the 570 on full load and it appears to be in the 300 watt area so x2 and the CPU etc you might have problems. Hence why I suggested 1 GOOD card. If in doubt go up 1 is my motto. I run a over the top PSU but I like the comfort margin :)

Run a couple of E2409HDS's myself (very much like your pick) with a LG.... good solid monitors. And no problems so far to report.

SATA cables etc should come with your MB. The monitor comes with a DVI cable so you should be good to go

:)
