ok i was gonan do this a while back....ive tried to look at the overclocking guides but get a bit confused....is there anyone on here who has the gigabyte ud5 i7 920 and corsair xms3 memory that can sort of give me a hand in the settings i need to change to over clock my pc...i was thinking a a little at a time like go up to say 2.8 at first then to 3.00 and upwards thanks

You just need to alter the BCLK frequency and a couple timings then voltage.

Atleast that's what I did with the same setup.

ahh getting a little bit used to it now just one thing is it right that the say cpu temp is running at 38 then your core 1 core 2 core 3 core 4 run at like 48 which is higher than the cpu temp?

CPU temps are taken from the cpu socket, the core temps are exactly that, taken from the core. When quoting temperatures it's best to quote the core temps and not the cpu temp as the cpu temp is usually inaccurate.

ok ive had a little mess with overclocking is it me because to be honest i dont really notice ay improvement on the speed of which the programs load or games....than having it run on stock speed.

Most games don't really use the CPU a great deal - that's what a GPU is for. So you shouldn't expect to see a huge FPS boost from overclocking your CPU. Some games will benefit greatly but the majority won't.

To improve the speed of programs/files opening more quickly you should think about a faster HDD/SSD.

If you really want to notice a difference between the standard clocks of your CPU and when it is overclocked, try some CPU intensive tasks e.g. encoding.

Report back with your findings.
