i7 max temp

hi, just ran prime95 with my i7 920 @ 3.2ghz and it peaked @ 64c
my question is quite simple, whats the maximum temprature an i7 920 can handle safely for long periods of time?

people run in the 90s but i wouldn't have it in NORMAL usage over 75C, i think TJmax is 100C so theoretically anything up to that, but i wouldn't recommend it for any length of time.
you have to remember there's nothing that will push your I7 as far as the stress tests people run, for max temp your CPU will get to try IBT/LINPACK.
If under normal usage you are getting max high temps above 75C i would either take it down a notch or get some new cooling.

so if im getting max 64c on prime95 then i can safely go ahead and overclock some more? atm @ 3.2ghz i idle @ 33c and max out @ 64c,
i only use 1 fan on my cpu cooler so i could add the other one that came with it to get a bit more cooling but they say it only reduces temp by 1-3c

64c is fine for 3.2ghz

i've got the same rig as you, and 4ghz i idle at 40-45c and max out 80-82c

I've been running this setup for over a year and it's perfectly fine.

You always want lower temps, but the i7's do run hot.

Like Sayso said, these are bench tests, in normal conditions, the highest temps i've seen whilst running a game or encoding a video is around 70-75c. And that was during the summer, so go ahead and squeeze more out of the 920.

Just don't too nuts on the volts

ive already OC'd it to 4ghz for a 3Dmark06 benchmark @ stock volts so i dont think i need to fiddle with the volts, il run that OC again in prime95 and see what i max out at
