Hi guys. I guess the question is slightly pointless as its all going to be significantly faster than my current agp/1 gig ddr setup, but im still a little confused about the memory.

As you may have guessed its a while since I upgraded, but ive basically decided to go for the i7, a 4870x2, raid 5, and probably the rampage II . (I'm treating myself) :)

I'll be going for 3x2gigs of something. But what would be the best memory to get? (also, my budget is getting a little bit stretched by this point)

Cheapest 1333 MHz 6GB set from a reputable company (e.g. Corsair, OCZ, Geil, G.Skill).

You will not get much extra performance from a 1600MHz set.

Well 4Ghz on a 920 is 200x20. So the memory will have to be either 200x6=1200 or 200x8=1600. With 1333Mhz you either underclock it or really overclock it.

hello - thanks for the response :) I was thinking about the 1333 from corsair, but of course when it comes to the overclocking stuff I get lost quite quickly with memory.

I do intend to overclock the 920, though I dont plan too push it too far. As this is the case, what memory is necessary to be compatible with the overclock?

Thank you again for your help.

I read that its very easy to overclock these processors with the rampage. Apparently theres a screen that lets you do it when you start up. Do you recommend pushing the processor in the way that is available and if so, what would the difference in memory be? (and would it be significantly more expensive?)

The Rampage is an over priced board that offers little or no improvement over the P6T or Gigabyte UD5. I'd recommend using the baseclock BCLK to overclock the cpu rather than any Turbo settings, be it in the bios or software from within Windows. There would be no difference in memory.
