Thinking of going for an i7 rig and wondered if the memory you pick will limit your overclock, for example PC6400 would only take an E8400 to 3.6Ghz without overcloking the RAM on an intel board.

So, if i was to buy 6Gb ( 3x2Gb ) of normal Corsair 1333Mhz stuff how far could i overclock an i7 920?

May I suggest this instead:

They do 1600mhz easily at cas 8-7-7-20.

To answer your question, they shouldn't be a problem at all. Say you wanted a BCLK of 200mhz, with the stock divider you'd need the ram at 1600mhz but if you use the 2:6 one, your ram will be at 1200mhz and you'll still have the 200mhz BLCK (using a multi of 20 to give a 4ghz oc). Although the lower ram speed shouldn't really have an impact on performance, the ocz ram will definitely get you 1600mhz for ease of mind.

Thanks, i think thats the question i should have asked in the first place about dividers, as on previous intel boards you couldnt run at less than 1:1 wheras on nvidia boards let you run the run the RAM at pretty much any speed
