I'm just about to do a new build i7 based, dilemma comes over the motherboard choice. I'm not a gamer as such but do spend a lot of time looking at tech issues and using multiple virtual platforms. Memory is an issue as running several virtual's requires lots of mem, budget is not an issue. I'm thinking Asus P6X58D Premium or maybe Gigabyte GA-X58A in that not sure whether it should be (UD7 or OC). Do you guys reckon I'm on the right line? For not a lot more cash I could look at the Asus Rampage Extreme III but I initially ruled that out as a gamers board. Any thoughts discussions would be welcome as I hope to order sometime this week but just cannot settle in my own mind a firm decision. Thanks in advance

Have thought about SandyBridge setup rather than the 9xx range setup..

or have you bought the cpu already.

CPU not purchased yet, everything is at planning stage at present, just building list of goodies to build.

Are you suggesting that the Z68 is better than X58 I was under the impression that the performance desktop was based on the X58 chipset and that Z68 was just mainstream everyday performance.

The new mainstream processors have overtaken the old performance processors.

Have had a revamp now and need to decide which motherboard beween Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7-B3 and Asus P8P67 Deluxe any thoughts gratefully received. I have looked at the Z68 chipset but think the P67 is probably the best bet.

I had the ASUS Deluxe and swapped it for the Gigabyte GA-P67-UD4-B3 after 5 days because I had problems with the ASUS board. The Gigabyte has been stable and reliable for a couple of months now;)

Any particular reason you have dismissed Z68? Z68 is everything that P67 and H67 are, plus extras like the SSD caching and Lucid.

Arrrggghhh it goes on in seemingly ever debating circles, LOL. I have taken another look at the Z68 and P67 and think maybe some features would be cool such as the SSD caching. After reading many reviews especially on NewEgg lots people are unhappy with the Gigabyte board lots of DOA and BIOS problems. Asus board seems to top out in review, just gotta push the last part and decide now whether to go for a standard board or is it worth the extra dosh to go for the Asus Maximus IV Extreme
