i7 newbuild problems

Hi, just bought the following from OcUK:-
Foxconn Bloodrage mobo
i7 920 D0 stepping
6Gb OCZ PC3-12800C8
Asus GTX 275
Seagate Barracuda 2 500Gb
OCZ Modstream Pro 600w PSU

All fitted into my existing Antec 300 case and os is Vista x64.

My problem is I can't get this to run stable at even stock speeds.

Here are the bios settings:-
BClock: 133Mhz
QPI Multiplier: Auto @ 2400Mhz - 4.8GT/s
CPU Core Multiplier: x20
CPU Core Target Speed: 2666Mhz
CPU Uncore Multiplier: Auto @ 2133Mhz
Memory Bus Multiplier: Auto @ 1067Mhz (left this on purpose for stability tests)

Voltages
CPU Core Voltage: 1.16v
CPU VTT (Uncore) Voltage: 1.15v
DDR3 Memory Voltage: 1.60v
X58 IOH Core Voltage: 1.08v

With these settings OCCT crashes at various times during 30min tests. I've also tried running NFS Undercover and that also crashes within a few minutes of playing.

I've read that the CPU Core Voltage should be around 1.2v but I've no idea how increasing that would affect the other voltages and if so, what to set them at.

In fact, I've read so many articles and forums with wildly differing views on clock speeds, multipliers and voltages my poor little brain is frazzled and I'm now at a complete loss.

Any advice (on an idiot level) would be very welcome.

TIA

Your sytem should be stable at stock speeds with voltage adjustment, try increasing the memory voltage to 1.65v (do not go higher than this) and setup the correct speed, re-run OCCT or prime and see what happens.

I have had to lots of the OCZ ram with both sets were faulty.

Hi RJC, thanks for the response. Ok, I've done as you suggested re volts and settings and it still crashes about 10mins into OCCT test.
Would this indicate a RAM problem?
Thanks

Press you caps lock when screen goes black. Does it work (does the light come on/go off on the keyboard).

Unfortunately I'm using a wireless keyboard which doesn't have a caps lock light.

One thing I have noticed is that even though I have set the mem to 1600 in bios (133x12), the boot screen and cpu-z still show as 1066. Could this be part of the problem?

This doesn't sound like an OC/CPU problem. My first thought is that PSU - it's towards the lower end of what will power your gear. It's possible that the GFX card simply can't draw enough power. The other possibility is the gfx card itself.

But to eliminate the CPU I'd bump the CPU core voltage to 1.225 or so - it won't do any harm. I'd also boost the QPI speed - I've found that speeds that are too low are unstable. The max you can get is arounf 7000-7500, so aim to keep it in the 5000-7000 range.

But my money is still on the PSU.

Have you entered you ram timings yourself in the bios, mine are so wrong if i leave them on auto. also set the ram divider to 8 and uncore to 17 maybe that should help ?

Ok, I replaced the 275 with my old 8800GTS and OCCT ran fine both at stock settings and in overclock mode so I'm guessing Meridian was correct. Either the GFX card is faulty or the PSU does not put out enough power for it.
Now I guess I need to establish which one needs replacing.
Thanks to all responders, much appreciated.

I couldn't get my I7 stable with the my memory which I think is pretty much identical to yours at it rated speed and voltage without bumping up the QTT/QPI/VTT voltage too.

If I ran the memory at a lower speed and the default 1.5v it was stable!

same here have to run ram @ 1200 to keep it stable on my oc of 4.2 or else it just locks up on intel burn and occt
