i7 not looking all that super

If i read correctly in some threads, is it true that there will be some x58 Motherboards that have both ATI CrossFire or NVIDIA SLi compatible on the same Motherboard?

i7 looks pretty strong to me. Far too many people only look at things from a gaming point of view. There're lots more uses for fast CPUs than just games, especially as most games are GPU-limited!

While yes many are looking at it from a gaming perspective others arn't and are not so sure it would give that much more performance over what they already have to justify the additional outlay for a new untried platform that could end up giving a lot of problems.

All very ture but if you mainly game then that is the propestive that you will judge it from. So you can't criticise all the people who judge it on that.

Well everyone thinks that i7 is going to be superman on steroids, not likely, my brother works for a very reputable games review company and recently got a chance to have a look and play with a full working i7 setup, he told me that for servers and company based machines like mainframes it works great but dont expect a big increase in game performance, this stuff is more for buisnesses than gamers.

Anyone that has been expecting otherwise really hasn't been reading the right news sources over the past several months since the specification has been known. It was clear even from early spec that it was more for servers rather than games players.

My advice would be to not spend £2500 on a PC. Honestly - it's a mug's game.

At that price point you're going to be looking at expensive quad-cores with SLI/Crossfire graphics and loads of hard drive space, all of which will depreciate like a rock over the next 6-12 months. You'll get an uber machine now but, in a year's time, it'll be outperformed by something costing a quarter of the price.

Totally agree!
