hi ppl
i'm gonna build a rig shortly mainly, for re encoding blu ray material. so on average going to be working with files around, 42gb to 50gb and cos, i have been out of the loop for so long. was just wondering which of the 2 cpu's would perform faster ?
cheers for any advice given

Ok you can get a AMD Phenom II 940 for around £200 then becuase it still uses DDR2 RAM you can get that which is reaslly cheap plus a AMD2+ motherboard which is now cheap(ish).

Whereas if you go for an i7 you need a £250 CPU, then DDR3 RAM which atm is very expensive and a 1366 socket mothboard which are fairly expensive.

All i'm saying is the i7 is better but not a whole lot better then you compare how much the two cost.

i7 destroys Phenom II when it comes to any type of encoding.

I also think a decent Core 2 Quad will be slightly faster than Phenom II for that type of thing, as a budget alternative.

There isn't a lot in it if you go am3 when the new quads come out,it can be the mb for the i7 what can be pricey.
You do a lot of encoding get an intel.

To make sense against an i7, the phenom II should really be paired with a £70 mobo and £35 4gb memory. Under those circumstances, it's good value for money.
