i was about to but an i5 3570k for a friend when i see a little i7 3820 in the mm for around same price

my question is for gaming and normal day to day use what would be the best chip i know the i5 k chip would clock a lot, and i have been told the i7 ht dose nothing for gaming

Remember the 3820 is a 2011 x79 chip not a z77 so significantly more expensive mobo

Currently most games use 2-4 cores but better use of hyperthreding will come so the 3820 will likely give you longer before upgrade rather than a boost today.

The 3770k has similar if not better bench results than the 3820 though and normally comes in cheaper due to the cost difference of the motherboards.

The only gaming aplication I know of currently where the i7 gives a significant boost is running phsyx on the cpu in boarderlands 2 for none nvidia setups

thanks he will go with the i5 as the 1155 mother board is in the post, i did not notice the i7 was 2011
