I7 Overclock Help

I'm looking to over clock my I7 a little - maybe just to 3GHz for now and could use some help.

How do i do it?

I've got an i7 920 and a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Intel X58 motherboard.

PS I've had a look around the site/sites and it's a bit confusing for me, so i though I'd start my own thread where i can ask questions etc.

Go into the BIOS and set BCLK to 150. Bingo 3.0GHz

Faster clocks get a little more complicated as you have to start tweaking other settings, but that should be doable out of the box and pretty safe.

There should be a Gigabyte tool that will do some simple overclocks for you.

Also, just to be on the safe side, check on your BIOS, the CPU temperature when you boot it up, just for a minute, to be on the safe side.

Easytune6 can do most o the work for you, but it can be fickle.

Above is a link to Gigabytes own overclocking the I7 920 on the UD5 board, but the UD3 is pretty similar.

Thats for a C0 920 so voltages are higher than you need with a D0. You should only need around 1.25v showing in CPU-Z under load for 4ghz.

My 920 is still sitting at stock speeds, it's in a crappy case and on the Intel HSF atm - will start clocking it once those issues are addressed

I'm aiming for a nice, cool 3.4-3.5 clock with my 12GB Patriot RAM.

grats

don't take that BCLK too high mind! you need to start juggling 3 or 4 other things post 3.0 - 3.1 to get it right.
