Hey guys, after just installing a Noctua D-14 I thought I'd see where I could get with an overclock, this is where I am so far....

I tried increasing the bus to 200, and got a blue screen under stress testing. The only thing I've changed in the BIOS is the bus and the cpu voltage.

I can't remember the exact build spec, but it's something like 6x1gb Corsair xms3, corsair 570hx, niceish Asus, p6t or something?

What I'd like to know is what would be the limiting factor in achieving more? I still get a bit paranoid increasing voltages (especially of things other than Cpu), am I right to be? Or is it the case that these days it's impossible to render your machine useless through overclocking?

Many thanks,

That is a pretty good overclock right there. If that is stable for 24/7 at those voltages then you are good to go. Yeah you could maybe squeeze a few megahertz more here and there but not sure it is worth it. That looks really good. :)

Just remember thats a 33% overclock there Xan on damn good volts too. Leave it as it is, you have the best of everything there - maybe you could get 4.2/4.3 with more volts but a sub 150mhz increase...? really worth it?

put it under load and check the voltage.

for that kind of clock i would imagine you would require a few more volts.

strange you can't remember your build spec?...lol

especially if your overclocking it.

Have you stress tested this yet? I suspect that it's booting into windows but will need a few more volts to run stable under prolonged stress testing. If not, what are your temps like with that big 'ole D-14 strapped on?

Admittedly this screencap is only a couple of minutes of burning, but temps hover around 75-80 (a bit higher than I was expecting on a D-14!). The original wasn't under sustained load so perhaps that skewed the cpu voltage a little. I increased bus and voltage slightly, and this also seems to be stable... You guys are probably right and there is no point in going further.

I haven't actually used any of the testing programs like prime95 or whatever, though as a 3d artist all my cores are very often 100% for sustained periods.

Thanks for the replies guys.
