i7 Overclocking - Unstable when IDLE???

hi all.

got a new MATX board and i cant seem to get my overclock stable when idle. doing desktop stuff..

i can run prime and it'll be fine and use my pc to do other things. stop prime and it crashes within about 5 minutes.

messed with nb, QPI, PLL settings and cant seem to figure it out so thought i would ask for some advice.

i ran this chip at 4gig @ 1.275v stable in my old board. trying 4gig @ 1.28-1.29v on new board

any info would be helpful.

Do you have the settings enabled in the bios which lower the BCLK when your CPU is idling by any chance?

got this disabled. runs at the 4gig setting no matter what the load

you tried 191X21 yet?

voltages seem ok to me

does your msi board have a sink on the mosfet

not at the moment so im thinking that this could be an issue (ordering some cooling for it at some point)

havent tried 191x21 yet. i thought the 21 multi was just on the first core and when its loaded it drops back down to 20?

new settings ive been testing different settings all day. i did have one stable for over an hour at idle but then it crashed when starting up just before so ive tried the 191x21 route.

Okay so ive given up on the 4gig clock for now. untill i get some mosfet cooling at least to rule that out as the reason its unstable.

what can people get 3.6 stable at volts wise?
