i7 overheating

Hey guys i bought and then built a full system from OC the other day.
the specs are as follows;

Intel core i7 do stepping with stock cooler
OCZ gold 6gb of ddr3 ram (1600)
Antec 902 gaming case
corsair 850w powersupply
radeon HD5870 1gb

the first time i booted it up with only the paste that is pre applied to the heatsink of the stock cooler i had temps that started at 85 and climbed rapidy untill i was around the 100 mark at which point i shut down (thats just sitting in bios )

i then removed the heatsink and wiped away the standard thermal paste and added my own. it now runs at 60 ish degrees idle. but when i try and put it under load the temprature climbs rapidly. i tried running prime 95 and within 2-3 secs i was at the hundred mark and had to end the test (temp readings from both coretemp and realtemp) and this is AFTER ive disabled the turbo boost technology and the hyperthreading in bios

any ideas guys?

hey thanks for fast replies.

erm i have it set in bios so the cpu is ramped up and down depending on how much processing power you need at the time. also the voltages are set to auto. at the moment (doing pretty much nothing) the bus speed is 134.9 and the core voltage is 0.864v (core speed is only on 1.6ghz).

My case is the Antec 902.
and my mother bored which i forgot to mention in my original post is the gigabite ud5

@refulx the shop didnt build it, i built it, i simply meant i bought all the components from OC . sorry if i didnt make myself clear

ok thanks for your help. i will try the push pins again see if they will go in anymore. i will upgrade the cooler eventually but id think at stock speeds it should be sufficient even with turbo boost turned on under full load.

@Kribby2006 well when i did it the heatsink wouldnt budge after so i assume so. but i will check again in a little while and let you know how i get on.
