Hi,first time here,i wanted to know how far my i7 920-P6T mobo can go ?.iv,e read upto 3.8ghz on this board,if it,s kept cool,is that correct.It,s oced to 3.2ghz now ,but would like MORE for FSX,i have a V8CPU cooler and 7 Zalman case fans, 3 of which blow directly onto mobo.thanks in advance.It,s not the delux or v2.

I have the deluxe V2 version of that motherboard so this information might not be useful at all but whatever.

I can reach 3.8GHz with all power saving features enabled (as well as HT). I need to disable C1E in order to get to 4GHz and above though. Temperatures have never been a problem for me except during the heatwave we had a few months ago - I did not run above 3.8GHz during that time.

Thanks for replying,would my set-up handle 3.8,i thought the V8 was supposed to be good,[read a lot of good reviews].

Should be fine, but it will depend on the CPU temperatures you are happy to live with.

I suggest clocking it to 3.8GHz, running a stress test and see what temps you get.

It's not a bad cooler, but isn't up to the level of the top performing air cooling setups which you really want when heavily overclocking an i7.

thx Andy,where do i find the settings,i,m quite new at all this, i don,t want to start tinkering just yet,i trust myself to put in settings that are safe!.many thx.Dan

All the settings are in the BIOS (just press "delete" when your PC starts booting up). However, I wouldn't suggest changing anything in the BIOS until you have had a good read up on overclocking with an i7 (there is a lot of information out there).

For temperature monitor, use this. For a stress tester, I use this.

I suggest running the OCCT stress tester now on your current settings (1Hr should give you a good indication). Finding the maximum load temps at 3.2GHz will give you some indication of the temperatures you will be dealing with.

Iv,e run OTTC it stopped after 1min 5 secs saying CPU to hot,bearing in mind the 1st min is only monitoring Hmmm !
Idle.c
1=57
2=63
3=54

OCCT.c
1=98
2=100
3=86
4=100
V core=1.28

i'd say your V8 isn't seated properly with idle temps like that.
Remember you only need a small amount of Paste on the CPU

Thanks to everyone for the replies,it was the 2 top screws on the v8,2 turns on one 3 turns on the other.Now i,m getting 38c at IDLE-PRIME95-OCCT 67c-70c.Never thougth of checking, the rig is only 3 month old.

Thanks again. Dan
