Hi,
Im seriously contemplating the switch to i7, but am wondering about the power requirements. I currently have a BeQuiet! 650w psu running a GTX280 + a Q6600 plus a few hard disks and fans. I plan on keeping the GTX280 and just switching out the motherboard and processor, as well as adding a few extra HDDs and another fan or two. Having had a PSU blow up on me a few months back, i really dont want to have that experince again, so want to check the power supply will be sufficient. I get the feeling it should be, but better to be safe than sorry!
Im also concerned about the position of the PSU in the case. I have a Lian Li A17, witht he PSU mounted at the top above the motherboard. It currently sucks quite a lot of hot air through from the processor, and im well aware the i7 will only produce more heat. I certainly dont want to ruin the PSU through extensive heating (particularly as the system will be on for extended periods at 100% load), so thought i would ask for peoples input on this too?
Thanks, any advice is appreciated.
