As anyone with a I7 rig done any power usage test at idle and underload?

Just about to buy a new development machine so I thought I would try I7.

Looking at the reviews some sites are showing high power usage at idle while other sites show really good idle usage. Whats the real deal?
 
At idle it's just about equal to the Phenom II.

The Core2 draws more power than both at idle.

At load the i7 draws similar to Core2, if not a little more, Phenom II beats them both.

The scale from max (Intel) to min (AMD) is typically ~20% at idle and ~10% at full load - clock-for-clock of course.
