Currently I am running at 4ghz. Bought OCUK bundle.

Bios posts at 4ghz but then inside Windows 7, coretemp and cpuz 1.51 both report it's 2.4ghz with a x12 multi?

Anyone know of any programs out there that support i7 platform?

Super PI ver1.1e seems to fail when trying to run?
 
super-pi mod 1.5 works

sad thing is my 3.5ghz Q6600 did a 1m in 14 seconds and this i7 at 4ghz did the same!!

the 4m run took 1m07s and on the q6600 it took 1m21s.

hardly worth the upgrade. Will test video encoding
 
The first post refers to speedstep presumably. CPU-Z, CoreTemp and Windows 7 support i7s fine. You need to stress the CPU to make it rise to its full speed.

No, i7s aren't much faster in single threaded apps. They are designed for parallel operations.

Yeah you were spot on there. I blame the flu and should be in bed!!

Completely forgot about speedstep. Thing is I booted into windows and mesaged my brother saying hey up and finally running at 4ghz as I read 3999mhz.

Then look back up and it said 2399mhz and figured I was not seeing things clearly today.

Seems quite slow, at 4.2Ghz mine is under 10 seconds for 1M.

Do you have HT on?

yeah. system showing 8 processors. Prime95 stresses at processes so HT must be enabled.

What super pi program you using? I would have expected at 4ghz on this new architechture I'd be below 10s for a 1m run?

On the plus side my previous system encoded a 1920x1080 clip to 1280x720 and that took 7 minutes and 23 seconds running at 3.5ghz (Q6600)

This system at 4ghz takes 4 minutes and 16 seconds. Big improvement there.
 
Something wrong with you superpi scores It should really be 10 secs or under.

My q9650 at 4ghz does it in about 11.5secs. I need 4.8Ghz to crack 10 secs.

The i7's really do eat suprpi for breakfast. a 4.6Ghz i7 will do it in 6 seconds.

Just found a program called M-Pi beta???

That completed a 1m run in 3.807 seconds using 8 threads.

16.302 seconds using 1 thread..

What PI program you using?
 
You can quite easily stop the PC from lowering the multiplier by entering your BIOS and disabling EIST and C1e... Although it isn't a bad thing having those settings on...

If it's stable and not falling over I dont mind it dropping speed if helps the electrcitiy bill out a little bit. PC never gets turned off.
