I have just finished my build. I opened CPU-Z and my i7 reads as having 2 cores 4 threads  4 cores is enabled in msconfig and still it says 2 cores. Any Ideas?

Just download CPU-z and post a screen of the first tab. That will tell you/us how many cores are enabled.

you may have bent the pins on the cpu motherboard socket.....i recentley bought a board second hand of ebay..it was a gigabyte ud7 and i got it for £90 because the installer had bent the pins on install of the cpu which resulted in only 2gb of his 6gb ram installed showing up...he couldnt and didnt want to try and fix it....sounds very similiar dont you think? the board still posted just registered one channel of ram

ps giagbyte board was fixed in 5 minutes with a pair of tweezers and lots of light and squinting...so dont despair...
